Back in Shanghai this week.  Today's paper tells me that the PM2.5 index hit 602.5 yesterday @ 1pm. PM10 peaked at 671 around the same time. It sure was murky when I went out for lunch and the air was positively chewable. Today seems better - visibility was around 500 metres but yesterday was as bad as anything I've ever seen since the bad old days before the Olympics.
